Politically ...

I'm a Barry Goldwater / Newt Gingrich Republican with Libertarian leanings -- Don't spend money that you don't have, don't start wars which you don't intend to win. I'm not quite ready to give up on the party just because of a failed two term president for whom I've not voted and a quorom of crooks sufficient to warrant a Rico indictment.

A political cartoon that showed a Nobel Peace Prize draped on a telepromter accurately mirrors my feelings about the new guy.

Though as fate and Gerrymandering would have it, I am currently in Maxine Waters congressional district. I was at a town meeting a couple years back and she happened to sit down two chairs away. At a break in the proceedings I leaned over and inquired if I could get a Letter of Marque & Reprisal for Osama Bin Laden -- that would have been an exquisite wall hanging. She answered me with a total non-sequitur about the conduct of the 2nd Iraq war... and then it dawned on me that she had no concept of what I'd proposed. It should be a requirement that Congressmen (& women) should have to read & understand the Constitution, a succint document, before they are allowed to take the oath of office. The final irony is that there wasn't even a serious Republican candidate running against her in the last election. Now, most recently she's being investigated for ethics violations.

Just to complete my faith in government, my state senator has recently been indicted for voter fraud, and 8 other charges stemming from the fact that he does not reside in the district. In an ethical government, it would only seem proper that the Attorney General would check the simplest qualifications before allowing a name to be placed on the ballot.
